“I didn’t plan it as a solo trip,” Dhartti admits. She had initially reached out to her friends, hoping to find travel companions, but it turned out that they had all already explored the beauty of Thailand. Left with a choice between waiting for company or seizing the opportunity for adventure, she boldly chose the latter. “I think this was the best decision. I feel that solo traveling helps you to know yourself more, and you are in charge of making decisions. I enjoyed solo travel a lot,” she reflects.
The Challenge of Culinary Adventures
Solo travel often leads to unexpected culinary encounters, and Dhartti’s vegetarian diet added an extra layer of complexity. “I am a pure vegetarian and I don’t eat eggs either,” she reveals. In Thailand, renowned for its vibrant street food culture, this presented a unique challenge. “I can tell you, I ate as much salad and fruit as I have probably never eaten before,” she laughs. Yet, as the saying goes, travel is as much about the people you meet as the places you visit.
Finding Friends on Foreign Shores
Despite the initial hurdles, Dhartti’s solo journey took a heartwarming turn when she met strangers who would soon become close friends. “When I went to Bangkok, I met some strangers who later became very good friends,” she recalls. Among these newfound friends were Sahil Gulati and his sister Simran Gulati, who run a travel blog named “Peace and Parvat.”

However, her journey took a challenging turn when it came to facing her fear of water, known as aquaphobia. “I have aquaphobia. I avoid swimming pools and any aquatic activities due to my intense fear of water,” she admits.
Facing Fear with Friends
During an island tour, Dhartti’s aquaphobia was put to the test. The unexpected happened when their boat came to a halt in the middle of the sea. It was a terrifying moment, especially given her intense fear. “I felt like I was about to drown, and I was overwhelmed with fear,” she confesses.
Yet, it was during this trying time that her newfound friends, Simran and Sahil, stepped up to provide unwavering support. “They held my hand and encouraged me, ultimately giving me the strength to survive that challenging day,” Dhartti recounts.
Their friendship and support helped her overcome her fear in a daunting situation. “This experience has taught me the value of travel, as it enables us to confront our fears, gain new experiences, and discover the numerous benefits it offers,” she reflects.
Looking Ahead
Inspired by her transformative journey, Dhartti now eagerly anticipates future travel adventures. “Consequently, I am now eager to visit South Korea and Turkey,” she says, highlighting how travel has broadened her horizons and inspired her to embrace new experiences, conquer fears, and continue her journey of self-discovery.
