Chandru G, a rising star from Tamil Nadu, won the WBC India Cruiserweight Championship title after beated out Punjab boxer Jaskaran Singh in the fourth round. Chandru, who had a perfect 10-0 record coming into the fight, quickly gained control, landing heavy three-punch combinations and right crosses. In the decisive fourth round, Chandru’s powerful right cross struck Jaskaran square in the face, knocking him to the ground. Referee Kevin David stopped the fight and declared Chandru the winner.
The victory is for the entire state of Tamil Nadu, as well as Chandru’s team, family, and supporters who have been by his side throughout this journey. Chandru hopes that this victory will inspire more Tamil Nadu boxers to pursue careers in professional boxing. He may be able to challenge for the WBC Asian title in the near future.
In other sports, Haryana’s Ashish Choudhary won a unanimous decision over Punjab’s Manish Sharma, and Haryana’s Renu Phogat defeated Delhi’s Ruby in the first round through technical knockout. In the second round, Kartik Kumar of Himachal Pradesh defeated Punjab’s Davinder Singh by technical knockout.
Taher Khuram of Afghanistan defeated Samuel J of Tamil Nadu by unanimous decision over four battles. In his statement he expressed gratitude and said “This is just the beginning, I have a possible shot at the WBC Asian title in the coming few months. Thank you to everyone who believed in me.”
