Actor Jay Zaveri, who has been part of multiple web series such as Baarish and Asur and Gone Game ( season 2) , says that OTT has helped open multiple doors for actors as well as other members of the industry. The actor says that more content can be showcased now.
“The onset of OTT platforms, different platforms, YouTube channels, gives tremendous scope for the new age filmmakers and creators to show their talent, I think this is good because there is so much content now and there are some amazing content producers. There are so many things happening on online platforms. The scope is tremendous and there is more work for everyone,” he says.
He adds, “As an actor you can do OTT, movies, television, ads. The acting is a little different, for example, at times you have to be more loud and you have to do physical movements and your small reactions also matter there. On the other hand, film and OTT are more realistic. It’s become really difficult for an actor to choose and work in different formats. Of course, you can’t do everything at the same time because when you are doing TV, daily soaps you are booked for the entire month. It’s an ongoing process which is always on toes. On TV, you perform on the spot every time. TV always keeps you on your toes, that’s how it works. In OTT and films, there are scripts that are given to you before the scenes and shots. There are workshops where detailed characterization is done with everyone. On TV, the actors have to do it all by themselves. You have to do more homework. When you come on set you have to perform well.”
However, an actor needs to learn how to balance all the mediums. “Managing everything it’s really difficult. You are busy for 15 to 20 days or even a month. You have to do the same thing over and over again. You don’t get time to explore something else. I have done web series, television and then a couple of movies for digital platforms. It’s how you manage your own time that’s it.”
