Maldives minister Mariyam Shiuna accused India of targeting Maldives in a tweet, and that seems to have created a massive controversy. In his tweet, he called prime minister Narendra Modi a puppet and a clown. Actress Sherleen Dutt who has been part of projects such as AFL ( Anything For Love), KINK ( Kiss Ishq N Konnections) and Honey Trap Squad on Alt Balaji, says that we need to take a step back and unite as a country.
“It’s disheartening to hear about disrespectful comments. But India and the Maldives share a rich history, so it’s crucial to maintain good relations. I think that needs to be from both sides. It is very important to understand that if we are being spoken to like this, we need to take a step back,” she says.
She adds, “The Maldives Association of Tourism Industry has been condemned regarding the derogatory tweets. And we, as a country, need to unite. This is also a great opportunity to understand the impact our words can have on diplomatic ties, or even normally.”
Ask her how she personally takes a stand in this, and she says, “Well, for starters, I would not be going to Maldives till all this is resolved. I think we have a beautiful country and have almost everything here, so anyway I don’t see the need to go anywhere else.”
