Prashnu, a self-taught make-up artist, from Ujjain is the latest victim of social media negativity. The 16-year-old transition reel in a saree on Instagram got many hate comments that affected his mental state. Actor turned humanitarian Somy Ali, who runs her NGO, No More Tears, speaks on the incident. She begins by saying how social media makes it very easy for people to comment, judge and criticise in very harsh ways.
“This phenomenon is growing rapidly in an extremely perilous manner. They are cowards who hide behind their screens and have way too much time on their hands. However, what we as a society are not comprehending is the number of lives we are losing daily because of the nonstop comments, criticisms and trolls. This has become a slippery slope. It’s a downward spiral leading to many deaths literally. I cannot believe this 16 year old child who was so beautiful and so talented committed suicide due to the nonstop trolls. I don’t care if you are an atheist or a theist, if you are devoid of the simple logic that we are born gay, straight, bisexual, transgender, and whatever your sexual orientation is then you are ridiculously illiterate and a bigot. I am fuming for this child’s loss right now and crying with anger. She just wanted to be. That’s all! Just be. How can one insult, hurt, troll and criticize one for simply wanting to be their true selves.
Many feel that it’s high time that LGBTQ community gained acceptance. “It’s not acceptance. It’s loving and caring for them as we do for any human being. They are not some disease that needs acceptance. They are beautiful people inside and out just like heterosexuals. How would it feel to say isn’t it time to accept heterosexuals? No! A big NO! It’s high time that celebrities step up their game and straight or gay take a stand for what has occurred. We have lost a 16 year old who had her entire life ahead of her. She had dreams and goals and we with our lack of education took those away from her. We murdered her with our age old backward thoughts and ideologies. I don’t understand why influencers and straight people don’t raise their voices on tons and tons of issues that would help make our world more livable and safer for those who need protection. I am still trying to figure out what became of the two women raped in Manipur. I want to see consequences of this murder/suicide. I want to see every troll’s account shutdown and them being located via their IP addresses and held responsible for the killing of this beautiful 16 year old girl. I want Rahul Gandhi to step up and do something. Enough is enough. Celebrities and politicians need to stop playing it safe and living in their bubbles and help those who are in need,”
The only way out is consequences, feels Somy. All bad behavior stops with consequences or else these losers with their lack of intellect will keep murdering people.

“Whatever happened to cybercrime? Where are they in all of this? Why aren’t they doing anything about this girl’s death? Where are the politicians? Are they all homophobic? And the celebrities? Do they pick and choose safely what to take a stand for or against? Give me a break. Someone died! A beautiful girl who harmed absolutely no one died. I mean is anyone listening out there or are we going to post how sad her loss is and move on with another selfie! It’s disgusting and sickening to me what has occurred and to know we are responsible makes it even worse. These trolls must be stopped and accounts to be used to locate where they are based and they need to go to jail for the murder of this child. If we don’t act now then let’s just sit back and keep watching people killing themselves and grab some popcorn while you are at it. Enough said,” she adds.
