In a heartwarming initiative, the Empower Foundation has lent its support to the Girls Skill Development Program conducted by CHIP Mumbai (Children in Progress). This remarkable program, spanning from January to July 2023, is aimed at empowering young girls through education and skill-building.
About CHIP Mumbai: CHIP Mumbai, an NGO with roots dating back to 1997 in Kolkata, was established by a group of Educationists and Doctors. Its Mumbai chapter has been active since 2004, with a primary focus on promoting quality education in government schools. The organization’s mission revolves around providing holistic education to children studying in BMC schools, nurturing their potential, and equipping them with skills to become successful citizens and lifelong learners.
Girls Skill Development Program Highlights: In this current batch of the Skill Development Program, 38 young girls have been enrolled, marking a significant step towards empowering them. The program’s comprehensive curriculum encompasses various topics, including leadership development, gender sensitization, self-grooming, retail management, and soft skill enhancement. Furthermore, the participants are receiving computer training that covers a range of skills, from basic Microsoft Office proficiency to graphic design and web development.
The sessions are designed to be interactive, engaging, and informative, fostering enthusiasm among the participants to acquire new knowledge and skills. Additionally, individual and group counseling sessions, facilitated by Shabana Khan from MESCOM Foundation, have proven to be instrumental in helping the girls build confidence, cope with stress, and develop positive attitudes.

Leadership Building: Guided by Trustee and Program Director, Adv. Kunickaa Sadanand, the girls were encouraged to take on leadership roles. As part of this initiative, they engaged with women in the community, identified their needs, and worked to raise awareness about available resources. This initiative has not only built confidence but also fostered a strong sense of community engagement and empowerment.
Impact and Success: The positive impact of the program is evident through the transformation in the girls’ behavior, outlook, and performance. They have emerged as more confident, assertive, and ambitious individuals, equipped with improved communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. Some of the remarkable outcomes include re-enrollment of girls for further education, successful job placements, enrollment in internship programs, and the development of future aspirations.
This program has been a beacon of hope for the girls, many of whom hail from marginalized backgrounds with limited resources. The support from the Empower Foundation, combined with the dedication of various resource persons, including Shabana Khan, Mukta Dubey, Daiwshala ji, Advocate Nilesh, Derik Sir, and Bright Future, has played a pivotal role in the program’s success.
The contribution of the Empower Foundation, spanning multiple years, has been instrumental in making this transformative journey possible for these girls. The program continues to uphold the values of education, empowerment, and skill development, setting a powerful example for social change and progress.
