Inspector Avinash actor, Harjinder Singh says that awareness and acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community has increased over time. He adds that movies and web series have a great role to play in this. “Over the years, the LGBTQ+ community has gained more visibility and representation in media and society. This has led to increased awareness and acceptance of the community, although there is still work to be done,” he says, adding, “The representation of same-sex relationships in movies and media can definitely contribute to the understanding and acceptance of gay rights. It can help to normalise these relationships and show that love is love, regardless of gender. However, it’s important that these representations are done in a respectful and accurate manner, and not just for the sake of tokenism or to pander to a certain audience.”
He says that we still have a long way to go. “Our society should definitely be more accepting of LGBTQIA+ individuals. India is a diverse country with a rich cultural heritage, and it’s important that we respect and celebrate all forms of diversity, including sexual orientation and gender identity. It’s time to move away from outdated beliefs and prejudices and embrace a more inclusive and accepting society,” he says.
The younger generation is more accepting, he says, “It’s heartening to see that awareness and acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community is improving, especially among young people. It’s important that we continue to have open and honest conversations about these issues, and work towards creating a more inclusive and accepting society for everyone
