Renowned actress Kangana Ranaut is set to embark on her most ambitious project yet as she takes on the role of former Indian Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi in the upcoming period political drama ‘Emergency’. The film, directed and written by Kangana Ranaut herself, promises to offer a genuine and honest insight into a pivotal moment in Indian history.
‘Emergency’ will delve into the infamous July 1972 Simla Agreement between Mrs. Indira Gandhi and former President of Pakistan, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. The agreement, also known as The Shimla Agreement, marked the formal end of the 1971 India-Pakistan war and aimed to establish peace by addressing key issues such as the Kashmir conflict and improving bilateral relations. However, controversy continues to surround this event in India’s political history, making it a compelling subject for cinematic exploration.
Kangana Ranaut shared her excitement about the project, stating, “Playing the role of Mrs. Indira Gandhi in ‘Emergency’ is a tremendous responsibility and a significant challenge. This film is my most ambitious project to date, and I am committed to portraying this iconic figure with authenticity and integrity. The film boasts a stellar cast including Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and the late Satish Kaushik in pivotal roles. Produced by Zee Studios and Manikarnika Films, ‘Emergency’ features music by Sanchit Balhara and screenplay/dialogues by Ritesh Shah.
