Project Angels: A Real Transgender Show on Mask TV
The landscape of audience preferences is constantly evolving, and so is the way stories are told and characters are portrayed. It is truly remarkable to envision a scenario where real transgender individuals take centre stage as the main protagonists in Indian entertainment for the very first time.
Creating a stir with her debut venture, Mansie Bhatt is generating buzz with her exceptional web show titled “Project Angels,” featuring a cast comprised of real transgender people.
Expressing her vision for the project, Mansie Bhatt, the creator, writer, and director of “Project Angels,” shares, “This show has always held a special place in my heart. I have closely observed the challenges faced by transgender individuals. Coming from a family with a background in the film industry and having produced popular shows aired on Doordarshan, I had been contemplating the idea of creating something with real transgender individuals. The cast includes Navya Singh (Anchor), Alfiya Ansari, Zoya Khan, Garima Grewal, Sonam Khan, Aafiya Mukri, Saiba Ansari, Simran Khan, Khushie Parghi, and Afreen Shaikh. These ten remarkable individuals are facing the camera for the first time, displaying immense ease and talent. In addition to showcasing their daily lives, we also feature them participating in a fashion show. They exude beauty and passion in their new avatars, and we formed a strong bond. Despite the government’s recognition of the ‘third gender,’ these communities still face neglect.”
As anticipation builds, the young creator enthusiastically adds, “Given that this is the first of its kind, the stories have already generated considerable buzz. The series will consist of six episodes, each lasting 25 minutes, and is streaming on OTT platform, ‘Mask TV,’ I am grateful and overwhelmed by the trust and support of my brother, Chiranjeevi, as well as my parents, Sanjay and Anju, who believed in me and backed my endeavour.
