On the third barsi (death anniversary) of the late legendary Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan, the prestigious 2nd Padma Vibhushan Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan Award was presented to tabla maestro Padma Vibhushan Ustad Zakir Hussain. The ceremony took place at the iconic Shanmukhanda Hall, where Amina Ghulam Mustafa Khan, the wife of Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan, presented the award. The event was attended by Khan Saab’s family, including sons Qadir Mustafa Khan, Murtuza Mustafa Khan, Rabbani Mustafa Khan, Hasan Mustafa Khan, and daughters.
The evening featured a captivating concert titled ‘Haazri’ by Padma Shri Sonu Nigam, paying tribute to the late maestro and Guru, Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan. Sonu Nigam enthralled the audience with renditions of his best songs, creating a mesmerizing atmosphere. The event was attended by renowned singers, musicians, celebrities, and dignitaries, including Suresh Wadkar, Hariharan, Talat Aziz, MLA Ashish Shelar, Dr. Aneel Kashi Murarka, comedian Zakir Khan, among others.
Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan, a luminary in Hindustani Classical Music, made significant contributions to the field, leaving an indelible mark on the world of music. The Padma Vibhushan Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan Award serves as a tribute to his legacy, honoring individuals who have made exceptional contributions to Indian Classical Music. Last year, the award was presented to the flute maestro Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia.
