Sanchita Banerjee says that it’s high time we step up our efforts to abolish child labour. The actress adds that we need to make sure this world is a better place for the victims of this evil practice.
“World Child Labour Day is a very strong establishment to draw attention to the issue of child labour and to make people socially aware about it. I personally am against child labour because I think that childhood is the best phase in everyone’s life and every child has the right to live it to the fullest. I also feel that making small contributions by each and everyone can really benefit the future. Instead of making them work and then paying, then we can directly pay for their betterment in terms of their education, better living, better food, clothing, etc,” she says.
She adds, “I feel extremely bad when I see children working on streets, stations, factories, houses, etc. I try to do the best I can from my end. I provide them food and clothes at times as much as I can. It’s sad to watch people make an earning by making children work on the road? For them, children are just a business. We must not encourage such thoughts and hence put an end to it permanently.”
She says that people need to address the root cause of the problem. “The main cause behind child labour is unemployment. I know in many countries there are a lot of financial crises and people are left with no other option than to send their children to work. But we, on the other hand, should not encourage such moves. In fact, if each and everyone of us could spare a very reasonable amount for the help and betterment of such people and countries, it would really help in improving the social life of those people and bring them up to a certain scale of living,” she says.
