Rii shares her passion for mountaineering, her inspirations, and her plans to conquer the world’s highest peaks
Singer and adventurer Rina Charaniya, popularly known as Rii, has recently revealed her deep-seated passion for mountaineering. For Rii, the call of the mountains and the allure of nature have been lifelong companions, tracing back to her childhood.
“I think it’s always been a part of me. When I was a kid, I used to walk around 20 kilometers every day, and I really enjoyed walking back home. I have a deep love for nature and mountains, and I started to think about climbing them after watching idols like Nimsdai and Mingma David Sherpa. It’s really inspiring, and it’s now one of my life goals,” she shared.

Reflecting on her initial mountain expedition, Rii recounted, “Last April, I visited Nepal with a group led by Nimsdai (Nirmal Purja). I went there to learn how to climb mountains. It was tough because I had to hike for seven days to reach the Everest base camp. I stayed at the base camp for four days, which was really hard but also very rewarding. We practiced climbing on a part of the Khumbu icefall while we were there.”
Recently, Rii achieved a remarkable feat by conquering Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in the world and the highest peak in Africa. She described her experiences during the journey, saying, “After doing such a trip, you have the desire to face nature. I went for 9 days without a proper shower, without home food and comfort sleep. You realize a lot of things that you may take for granted on a daily basis. Today I am grateful to live such experiences and climb alongside such grounded people.”
Rii’s passion for mountaineering doesn’t end with Kilimanjaro. She has set ambitious goals for herself, including scaling the Seven Summits, which are the highest mountains on each continent. Kilimanjaro marked her fourth summit, and she is determined to conquer the remaining peaks. Her enthusiasm for the journey ahead is evident as she plans to share her passion with her husband, who will join her on some of these climbs.
Speaking about her future plans, Rii expressed her desire to use mountaineering as a means to contribute to a greater cause. “I want to climb the Seven Summits and take my husband with me for some of the climbs. I want to climb for a cause too,” she said.
Rii’s journey from music to mountaineering showcases her determination and unwavering spirit. Her adventures not only take her to the highest peaks on Earth but also serve as a source of inspiration for others who aspire to follow their passions and dreams, no matter how challenging the path may be. Rii’s story reminds us that the call of the mountains can lead to incredible journeys of self-discovery and achievement, and that embracing the wonders of nature can bring profound gratitude and fulfillment.
