Date: October 17, 2023 October 17, 2023 – Birmingham, West Midlands – The Mayor of the West Midlands, Andy Street, and Indian icon Preity G Zinta are joining hands to host a weekend of festive events in Birmingham to celebrate Diwali, the Indian Festival of Lights. The grand celebration will take place on Saturday, November 4, and Sunday, November 5, 2023, in collaboration with the Consulate General of India.
Preity G Zinta, a beloved and iconic figure in Indian cinema, will visit Birmingham to mark Diwali. She will be welcomed by Mayor Andy Street, and both will oversee a weekend of events that will be filled with cultural festivities and entertainment.
Andy Street expressed his excitement for the upcoming Diwali celebrations, stating, “Diwali is a special time for the Indian diaspora, and communities right across our region are looking forward to celebrating the Festival of Lights. From the very outset of my time as Mayor, the WMCA has worked closely with local groups and the Consulate General of India to mark this occasion in suitably grand style – with dance, special guests, and entertainment.”
Preity G Zinta, known for her contributions to Indian cinema, her role in iconic films like “Veer Zara,” and her success in the world of business, including co-owning the PUNJAB KINGS cricket team in the IPL, expressed her excitement about the Diwali celebrations in Birmingham. She said, “I’m very excited to be part of the Diwali celebrations in Birmingham. Looking forward to meeting all the wonderful people there and celebrating the Festival of Light with them.”

The weekend of Diwali celebrations will include the following events:
Saturday, November 4:
- Preity will tour the creative district of Digbeth, showcasing its potential for attracting filmmakers from around the globe.
- Drinks and networking reception at Millennium Point.
- Evening gala dinner at Millennium Point, a black-tie or traditional dress event, featuring speeches and entertainment.
Sunday, November 5:
- Cultural Programme at Birmingham Town Hall, a free-of-charge community event open to the public, with a guest appearance by Preity G Zinta to light the divas.
