In a heartwarming gesture that highlights the profound impact of cinema, the team behind the film “Ghoomer” and lead actor Saiyami Kher organized an exclusive screening of the movie for paraplegic cricketers of India. The event, held in Mumbai, brought together nearly 50 paraplegic cricketers between the ages of 12 and 25, including those who officially represent India in international tournaments.
Saiyami Kher’s portrayal in “Ghoomer” left an enduring impression on both audiences and real-life paraplegic cricketers. Her compelling performance not only stirred emotions but also inspired those facing unique challenges on the cricket field due to their physical conditions.
Following the film’s positive reception, the Disability Cricket Council of India (DCCI), a division of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), reached out to the makers of “Ghoomer” and Saiyami Kher. Recognizing the film’s potential to motivate and inspire, they expressed their desire to arrange a special screening for India’s dedicated paraplegic cricketers. The film, with Saiyami’s earnest portrayal of the character Anina, deeply touched and moved everyone.
Saiyami Kher shared her feelings about the event, stating, “I am truly touched by the positive impact ‘Ghoomer’ has had on these exceptional athletes. Their dedication and resilience are truly inspiring, and I am humbled to have been a part of a film that resonated with them. Their stories are part of what we wanted to show in the movie. I’m so honored that DCCI and BCCI have given us this opportunity to show the film to the people that matter. Human resilience is the definition of these sports people, and I’m excited to see their response to seeing Anina’s life on screen.”
